Men’s Health Week is concentrating on ‘Man MOT’ to get their message of wellbeing across. They are asking that men take a good look at their bodies and minds and be honest about what they feel and see. With a variety of suggestions and help available, you can find the MOT guidebook, by visiting www.menshealthforum.org.uk/mhw
Here at MidexPRO, wellbeing is part of our everyday considerations. It can become very easy to sit at a desk for hours before realising, we haven’t moved! It’s so important that we look after ourselves daily. Taking regular breaks and noticing when someone isn’t 100%, is something we all encourage our team to notice and long may this continue.
As part of the office wellbeing, we actively also encourage either supporting charities or getting involved in a charitable event.
Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer have always been the two main National Charities we support.
Some of you may remember the ‘Wear it Pink’ campaign for Breast Cancer that we took part in last year. Our wonderful clients and partners joined in and raised well over £600 for their essential work.
This weekend, MD Gary and Daniel from the Support Desk, take part in the London to Amsterdam bike ride. Gary has been taking part in this event and others in aid of Prostate Cancer UK for years, raising funds for this worthy cause. This year, he has Dan, who has taken some time off from supporting clients using the MidexPRO Private Practice Management Software, to take part with him. We thought you would like to read the motivation behind their decisions to take part.
Gary Parker, Managing Director for MidexPRO. “As it’s Men’s Health Week, I wanted to talk about something very close to my heart…. Prostate Cancer UK. For several years now I’ve been cycling long distances to raise funds for the charity and this year is no different. By the time you read this, I will hopefully have completed the RideLondon 100 miles on Sunday 29th May, and on Friday the 10th of June will be setting off from the Olympic Park Velodrome in London’s Eastend, headed for Amsterdam. 158 miles over 2 days. Dan from the Support team is joining me along with about 250 other cyclists from across the UK.
It doesn’t stop there though. I plan to follow up that ride with another 127-mile ride in one day as I undertake the first leg of the Tour de France.
We will be lucky enough to do the first leg of the Tour one day before the Pros get to do it. For me, that will be the longest cycle ride in one day and I am a little nervous. My motivation is the work that Prostate does, is vital. 1 in 8 men are diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and sadly for black men that is doubled to 1 in 4.
Over the many years of cycling, I’ve met and become good friends with men that have survived Prostate cancer and I’ve also lost some friends to the disease. I have made the pledge, that as long as I can cycle, I will be cycling for PCUK.
If you wish to support my fundraising, please give what you can here, www.JustGiving.com/gazparker”
Daniel, Support Desk Analyst for MidexPRO “I have always wanted to have the opportunity to do a great accomplishment and raise money for charity. In recent years, that opportunity presented itself to me in the form of cycling for Prostate Cancer.
Once I was made aware of the chance to do this cycle ride by Gary, I knew it was something I wanted to do but knew it would be a big challenge to bolster my normal riding ability. I am used to a lot shorter distances and this was going to be a test for me to get the cycling hours in.
Since signing up for this event, I have been out on my bike putting in the hard work to make sure that I can finish both days and raise money for those affected by Prostate Cancer. After all, together, we will beat cancer. If you would like to support my fundraising efforts, please donate here www.justgiving.com/fundraising/djp-pc”
We wish both Gary and Dan all the best as they prepare and take part in the great event for a worthy cause.
